Guruvayur Shri Krishna temple: located in Guruvayur, this temple dedicated to Lord Krishna is one of the most sacred temples of india. The idol is in the standing posture with four hands (Chaturbahu) that can carry the Sankhu (conch), the Sudarshana Chakram, the lotus and the mace. The lord is worshipped in many avataars, the favourite being that of infant krishna or Unnikrishnan. the idol of the deity is made of a rare stone known as Patala Anjanam. reference for this temple can be found as early as the 14th century. it is a classic example of the architecture of Kerala and the walls sport mural paintings, depicting episodes from the Purana. the door of the place where the idol is installed, as well as the ceiling, is covered in gold.
