Cochin (Kochi) Carnival (Kerala-India)

Cochin carnival: the last week of december is the time when the annual Cochin festival is held at Fort Kochi. Each year, the massive procession of heavily ornamented elephants, games and partying, draws crowds from far and near. Fort Kochi is decked to the hilt and tourists from abroad as well as the country flock here. highlight of the celebrations is the procession on New Year's day, led by an embellished elephant and accompanied by drums and music. different folk dances from south and north india are also staged. all establishments in the city don white paper flags. impromptu competitions and celebrations are held everywhere. the festivities continue till midnight of 31st december with fireworks making the grand carnival.
